BREAKING: N. Korea Releases US Citizen Otto Warmbier

Word is this kid has been in a coma since just shortly after his trial back in March. Allegedly the 22-year-old contracted botulism and is in “bad shape” but en route back to the United States.

“Otto has left North Korea. He is on Medivac flight on his way home. Sadly, he is in a coma and we have been told he has been in that condition since March of 2016. We learned of this only one week ago,” said Fred and Cindy Warmbier in a statement.

“We want the world to know how we and our son have been brutalized and terrorized by the pariah regime in North Korean. We are so grateful that he will finally be with people who love him.”

Warmbier was detained in January 2016 at the airport in Pyongyang while on his way home. His parents say the University of Virginia student had been on a tour of the reclusive country.

North Korean authorities said they had security footage of him trying to steal a banner containing a political slogan that was hanging from the walls of his Pyongyang hotel.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says that North Korea has released Otto Warmbier, an American serving a 15-year prison term with hard labor for alleged anti-state acts.

Tillerson says that Warmbier is on his way back to the U.S. to be reunited with his family. He says in a statement that the State Department secured Warmbier’s release at the direction of President Donald Trump. Tillerson says the State Department continues discussing three other detained Americans with North Korea.

The announcement comes as former NBA player Dennis Rodman is paying a return visit to North Korea.

Warmbier is a University of Virginia student from suburban Cincinnati. He was sentenced in March 2016 after a televised tearful public confession to trying to steal a propaganda banner.

This poor kid. He’s been through a lot over something so little, but I can’t help by wonder WHY would someone go tour N. Korea in the first place. Also, if you do choose to tour N. Korea, WHY steal something from them, they are ruthless. Well, hopefully he gets home and get well soon. Maybe there was a point to all this and the consequences of his actions have taught him a lesson and made him a wiser person, inspiring him to do some good or something using the growth from his horrid experience. Because if not, the other option would be him allowing the trauma ruin his life…and that’s no good.

God bless our president for getting this kids out, and his efforts to get the others out.
