After years of historic drought levels and a steady recovery in 2017, Gov. Jerry Brown officially stated that California’s drought is over. Or is it?
According to the New York Times (so you know you know it’s true!), using measurements gathered by specialized instruments on a plane, scientists have been able to gain an unprecedented understanding of the amount of water present in the Sierra’s snow.
This year, after California’s very wet winter, the totals have been remarkably big…. BUT (you knew there was a “but” coming, right?
California has received enough fresh rainwater to entirely end the drought, but they still continue to dump water in the ocean for a bait fish. That’s right – a little tiny fish IN THE OCEAN needs all that water more than farmers who used to feed the world. They are nuts in California, right? Nope, it’s politicians getting paid off and the only reason they don’t say the word “bribe” is because those same politicians get to define what the word “bribe” means.
Extreme to exceptional drought – the most severe levels – have lifted in the entire state since it first appeared on Jan. 28, 2014, according to data from the U.S. Drought Monitor. Liberals have a tendency to do more harm than good, especially when it comes to micromanaging the environment. Every year, California sends full amounts of rainwater out into the ocean.
A giant swath of what used to be called, “the breadbasket of the world” is a desert because Sacramento with the help of Washington refuses to divert water to the farmland.
They got a lot of water this last week, yet with the constant releasing of extra water out the Delta into the ocean, it will not be long before it is all gone.
They have saved over 350 Billion Gallons of water, but are already discussing excuses to release it and lower the water level in the reservoirs. The series of storms already has added 33 billion gallons of water to Lake Tahoe alone.
When will Californian’s wake up and remove the ultra-liberal powerhouse in Sacramento? It has been going on for years now and no one can seem to change this water management method? Turn the water back on in the southern San Joaquin Valley?
It will be so sad to watch much of this water blessing California received be poured right into the ocean over the next few months.
Representative Devin Nunes, (CA) described the San Joaquin Valley situation in the WSJ back in 2009.
“Tens of thousands of people have been tossed out of work—the town of Mendota alone has an unemployment rate of about 40%—and the lines for food donations stretch down streets. The reason? There isn’t enough water to go around this year, and the Obama administration is drawing up new reasons to divert more of it from farms and people and into the San Francisco Bay. Today the San Joaquin Valley is being transformed into a dust bowl. Hundreds of thousands of acres are fallow, while almond and plum trees are being left to die in the scorching sun.”
But it has gotten worse. Just as California receives this deluge, State Water Resources Control Board wants to raise the amount that California throws away!
The LA Times reports:
The State Water Resources Control Board wants to raise the flow of the San Joaquin and the tributary Merced, Stanislaus and Tuolumne Rivers to 40 percent of their natural flow during the critical spring months.
“You are the grim reaper,” Assemblyman Adam Gray, whose district includes Merced, told members of the board at one of a series of public hearings in the San Joaquin Valley this month.
“Water is life in this region, and you appear to have no other purpose than to take that life away.”
